TURKEYS

A lot of people confuse our bronze turkeys for wild turkeys, but their are some distinguishing differences.
The photo above is a domestic bronze turkey.  The photo below is a wild turkey.  Can you spot the differences?
The easiest difference to spot is the white bands on the tail feathers of the bronze.  You will notice the wild turkey does not have these white bands.  A less obvious difference is size.  Domestic bronze turkeys are, on the average, larger and heavier then wild turkeys.
Despite the common saying of "bird brain", Turkeys are very intellegent birds.  They have a very keen eye sight, good memories and quick reflexes.  They are also very agile flyers.  It is, perhaps, for these reasons that Benjamin Franklin believed that the wild turkey should have been our national bird, instead of the bald eagle.
Turkeys tend to be shy but curious birds.  They get along well with other livestock and barnyard fowl.  Large, but non aggresive, they are wonderful members of our petting farm family.
