Ponies and Miniature Horses
Howdy! My name is Boots. I am a miniature horse and I live here at LeBrell's Barnyard Buddies. I have several pony friends who live here also. We're always glad when the little folks come around to pet us and ride us. I am one of the favorites for pony rides, although Im not really a pony. As I said before, Im a miniature horse. Let me introduce you to my pony friends...But first, take a look at me getting all gussied up to go to a Birthday party. Its a good thing that I like being bathed and groomed, because Mom and Dad LeBrell insist that we all look our best when we go to a party or event.
This is my friend Sugar. ![]() Sugar is a Dartmore Pony. Dartmore ponys were used in England to pull wagon loads of coal from the moors. A lot of people confuse Dartmores with Shetlands. But the Dartmore ponys are gentle natured, more social and have good work ethics. Sugars sweet nature makes her a petting farm favorite. This is my little friend, Lady.
![]() ![]() Lady 5 months old Lady 1 year old Lady was born May 2009, Lady was the youngest of our ponys until her brother, Thunder was born. Lady and her mother, Scarlett both live at LeBrell's. Lady recently attended her very first petting event and had a wonderful time meeting all the guests. Of course, she is still a baby, and like most baby's, she gets tired easily. Horses and Ponys frequently sleep standing up. Which is exactly what Lady was doing in the left photo. She was trying to take her afternoon nap, but didnt want to miss any of the action. Lady is still growing as you can see in the above photo taken when she was 1 year old. Ladys mother is a "Dunno" Pony (What breed is she? We dunno) We suspect Shetland cross, although she has a very sweet disposition and some physical traits of the Dartmore breed. Lady's father was a POA (Pony Of America). The POA breed began in the 1950's, the result of breeding a Appaloosa/Arabian mare to a Shetland Pony stallion. Since then, the POA has been a popluar breed for youg riders due to their versatility, small size and gentle attitude. ![]() Here is Scarlet with her baby, Thunder. Scarlett is also Lady's Mother. Thunder was born June 8, 2010. Her Mother is Scarlett and her Sister is Lady. Thunder's father was a POA (Pony of America). This is a photo of Thunder when he was just 1 day old.
And here comes, Panda. Panda is 29" tall and was born April 15, 2010. Panda is a black and white Filly and should remain small. Her mother is 30" tall and is also a black and white Paint. Her Daddy is solid black. ![]() Here is 7 year old Hannah, Panda's trainer. Isn't she doing a great job!
Oh yes, and here is an even small miniature horse, named Bambi. Bambi was born May 19, 2010. Bambi is light Chocolate color and is as sweet as a little Teddy Bear! ![]() Here is 5 year old Rachel, teaching Bambi to walk around the lot! Bambi is eager to please her trainer, Rachel. THE REST OF MY FRIENDS ARE STILL PRIMPING FOR THEIR PHOTOS... CHECK BACK SOON AND I WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO THE REST OF THE PONIES. ![]() In the mean time, why not read a story about miniture horses, and different pony breeds?
