GEESE

These are our geese.  The gander (male) is an Embden (white) and the goose (female) is a Toulouse(gray).

The Embden is traditionally a meat bird.  Its believed to have originated in Holland and parts of Germany.  The Embden is by nature one of the gentler of the goose breeds, with a low agression level and is also one of the more social goose breeds.

The Toulouse is a very placid breed of goose.  They are generally "home bodies" and not prone to wonder far.  The Toulouse is believed to have originated in France, and was later imported to the United Kingdom.  They are wonderful layers and excellent, protective parents.

Do you know where the name "Mother Goose" came from?  Were not sure either, but the most probable explaination we've heard is that the name "Mother Goose"  probably dates back to mid evil days and was applied to any farm woman who gathered children around her in flock like fashion and told them stories.

Why not read a story to your flock?
